After having his call upheld on review Monday night that Vikings defensive back Devonte Edwards was not down by contact on an interception return, lead official Walt Anderson ran to midfield and performed a 15-second, gyrating dance routine to the delight of the crowd.

After his celebratory dance, Anderson was called on a technical and forced to make all further calls ten yards farther down the field than he normally would have.

Now that the floodgates are opened, and the refs have joined the players in their celebratory dances I think that there should be a more artistic approach to this.

Pole dancing, yeah that's right pole dancing! They have that Skycam thing so they could just hook up a pole to it and lower it down on the field and let the players and refs dance their little hearts out. I really want to see Ed Hochuli do his thing after calling a 15 yd. penalty for unsporstman like conduct. I want to see Ed get jiggy!

I'd go for it if some or all of the cheerleaders did this for their team. Definately would make some of the 'pro' games more 'pro' like.

'Officials have been talking about doing something like this for a while now," said Anderson. "It was only a matter of who would do it first. I see myself as a bit of a pioneer now. Hopefully before long we'll all be doing it after every good call we make."'

Sounds like the thin-end-of-the-wedge to me..

Once this becomes a norm there'll be short intervals of play in between the cabaret acts.

couldn't it be construed as favoring one side or celebrating one's failure?

IMO refs are meant to be neutral and that includes keeping a straight face and not showing emotion.

OK, it's clear that the officials need celebration training. They gotta learn how to dive down on the deck and do the worm or copy the Jonathan Papelbon Riverdance.

Let's have some decent celebration dancing here!

ind06: Ha ha ah ha ha ha ha HA hA HA Ha HAAAAA HAAAAA. The NFL Players Union met today to discuss the distasteful acts of the referee. They are demanding that only players be allowed to make fools of themselves while on national TV.

This is every bit as idiotic as the players doing their banal little acts after a touchdown/

                    This is IDIOTIC!!!!

The PLAYERS are the ones who are accomplishing things on the athletic field/arena (you choose the sport...). The job of the officials is to monitor the activity to ensure that if rules of the game are violated, to institute the appropriate action as the situation demands.

Officials HAVE NO GROUNDS for celebration just for DOING THEIR JOB PROPERLY!!!

What's next, the Zamboni driver doing donuts or cartwheels for wiping a "PERFECT RINK"???

Or an umpire climbing the backstop screen for successfully recognizing a "called third strike."

In short, Mr. Anderson did NOTHING deserving celebration.

He was simply doing his ASSIGNED DUTY!

Officials should be darn-near invisible, no matter what the sport!

This mindset of "why not grab the spotlight and make an A$$ of yourself on National TV" has reached a new low if this sort of behavior becomes commonplace.

There's already too much ego in sport WITHOUT THIS!

The Coaches should raise hell about this. If a player does a dance, his team gets a penalty. I say if the refs want to dance, let 'em pay for it. $5,000 per dance. That oughta do it.

I agree with most views, this is complety uncalled for. A game is a game, & like others said, if a player celebrates, most usually, a penalty-this is biased, but not right, my opinion
