Stewart acknowledged that he has dropped even the semblance of originality, recording only albums of songs by other artists, many of them dead.

One has to be careful. You too could become a zillionaire and be knighted--cry all the way to the yacht.

His early stuff is really good but I think the various crappy covers have indeed required this apology so thanks Roddy and enjoy your years enjoying your multi-millions and model girlfriend!

Anyone go to one of the big stadium gigs where the stage was in the centre and he got carried on stage in a flight case?

As for his music being crap, the songs he wrote with the small faces were the best, though he did keep most of this for his first couple of solo albums.

Actually, it was the Faces who were the remnants of the Small Faces once Stevie Marriot left. Ogden's Nut flake, an absolute classic. Great rock and roll voice with a touch of Music Hall. Stevie M and Ronnie Lane, sorely missed RIP.

However, yes, Rod did some great stuff in his early years. Maggie May, Glad Rags, Mandolin Wind etc etc. and even the covers took a different slant with his unique voice.

It's sad that no one mentioned his association with Jeff Beck.

That was a truly wonderful combination.

"Cut across Shorty, Shorty cut across, that's what Miss Lucy said." If you can identify what Python Lee Jackson album (yes, album, not tape, cassette, CD) those lyrics came from you're way to old. I can, but it's time for my nap and I get cranky if I don't get my nap.

As long as he didn't sing his songs in a plaid kilt. I'm ok with it. (I hear he has knobby knees)

                              :o/

Loved his stuff with the Jeff Beck Group, and the version of "People Get Ready" on Jeff Beck's Flash with Rod singing is still my favorite cover of all time.

He's underestimated as a songwriter and as a singer, at least in his early days.

And even if it was crap, some extremely good looking women overlooked it.
